When I finally decided to return to wearing my natural texture, I was met with an unexpected challenge: moisture. My 4B high porosity hair would soak up water and product like a sponge—but within hours, it would feel dry again. It wasn’t until I discovered the LOC method that I started seeing real, lasting change. For all my high porosity girls, this is for us!
Think of your hair as a skin care routine. LOC stands for Liquid, Oil, and Cream—and it’s been the backbone of my weekly hair routine. It’s not just about styling; it’s about honoring the way my hair behaves and creating a system that actually works with it, not against it.
Here’s how I use it:
• L = Liquid or Leave-In: After washing, I always start with moisture. Lately, I’ve been loving the 4C Only “Too Easy” Leave-In Conditioner. It’s thick, creamy, and made specifically for hair like mine. It melts into my strands and sets the tone for hydration that lasts past day one.
• O = Oil: To seal all that goodness in, I follow up with either ArtNaturals Rosemary & Castor Hair Oil or a few drops of Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil. The ArtNaturals oil paired with the scalp massager has become a full-on ritual—it soothes, stimulates, and makes me feel connected to my hair. On days I need something lighter or more polished, Olaplex comes through with shine and seal.
• C = Cream: I finish with either the 4C Only Styling Cream for a soft, everyday hold or the Mielle Curl Forming Glaze when I want definition that lasts through twist-outs and braid-outs. Both work beautifully with my texture without leaving residue or flakes.
Since incorporating the LOC method with products that actually support my hair’s porosity, I’ve noticed a huge shift. My curls stay hydrated longer, feel more resilient, and look more defined. And beyond the results, it’s given me something even better—consistency. A routine that reminds me this process is mine, and it’s worth it
Just like my skin has a routine—cleanse, hydrate, seal—so does my hair.
